The fighting which broke out on Monday resulted hundreds of deaths including civilians and the injury of several hundreds, according to local hospitals and journalists.
On Friday, Amnesty International said that they were ‘appalled by reports of large numbers of people killed, injured & displaced, & damage to homes & a hospital.’
“Unlawful killings and other violations must end & there must be immediate unhindered access for humanitarian actors,” it added.
In the meantime, the United States said that indiscriminate shelling of civilians is unacceptable and must stop. “We call for an immediate de-escalation of violence in Lascanod, protection of civilians, unimpeded humanitarian access and for tensions to be resolved peacefully through dialogue,” the State Department’s Africa Bureau
