Tottenham already considering replacements for Nuno

Tottenham already considering replacements for Nuno/ Why some players are ‘not impressed’ with Portuguese

An update on Nuno Espirito Santo’s situation at Tottenham has been forthcoming on Tuesday evening and it doesn’t sound great for Spurs.

Nuno’s Tottenham stint

Nuno Espirito Santo was named as Tottenham manager over the summer, replacing now AS Roma boss, Jose Mourinho.

The former Wolves boss had the perfect start to life in north London, picking up an opening weekend win over Premier League champions, Manchester City.

This was followed by 1-0 wins over Wolves and Watford, results which left the Lilywhites sitting pretty atop of the Premier League ahead of the September international break.

Spurs’ results since, however, have been pretty dismal, especially in the league.

Tottenham have lost their last three Premier League games to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal – conceding three goals in each game.

Writing on the wall for Nuno?

Now, on the back of the North London Derby defeat, Nuno’s Tottenham future is being called into question.

As per Duncan Castles of The Transfer Window Podcast, Spurs were set to appoint Paulo Fonseca as manager, but that deal did not go through on the advice of Tottenham’s new Director of Football, Fabio Paratici.

And, in the end, Tottenham would appoint Nuno, who was offered to them earlier in the search for a new manager but the Londoners passed.

Now though, on the back of their dismal PL form, Castles is reporting that some Tottenham players are not impressed with Nuno’s attitude, personality or by the type of football they are being asked to play:

Some of the players have not been impressed with Nuno as an individual. Not particularly impressed by his attitude or his personality, that’s described as being dower. Some are complaining about the type of football they’re being asked to play and also some criticisms from within the club that he doesn’t understand the type of football that is expected for Tottenham.

I’m also hearing he’s not doing enough work to promote the club for example and getting involved with club media so there has been discontent there.

Castles adds that Tottenham are already considering replacements for the Portuguese:

The information I have is that Tottenham are already considering replacements for Nuno and also that this is not necessarily a unilateral process in the sense that Nuno, I’m told, is not happy with his circumstances at Tottenham. It’s not what he expected when he came into the club so there’s discontent on both sides there.
