October 23, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – A young Sudanese protester was killed by a gunshot on Sunday in a neighbourhood rally to mobilize for anti-coup protests to mark the anniversary of the October 2022 coup.
The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD) stated that a 15-year protester was shot in the chest by security forces in southern Khartoum city.
“A martyr who has not yet been identified died from a gunshot wound in the chest by the coup forces after participating in today’s demonstration in Khartoum,” said the medical group.
The victim, Issa Omer who activists later identified, was killed during his participation in a protest to advertise for the October protest against the coup of General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against the civilian transitional government.
Resistance committees organize, for several days, neighbourhood protests and posted short messages on social media calling on the Sudanese to take to the streets on Thursday.
Emergency lawyers confirmed that Omer, was taken to al-Gawda Hospital, after he was shot in the Alsahafa neighbourhood, south of Khartoum.
The forensic doctor’s report confirmed that the cause of death was a “fiery projectile” that injured the heart and lungs and caused the internal bleeding that led to his death on the spot, said the lawyers.
They further stressed they intend to sue the police.
The CCSD said 118 people have been killed in anti-coup protests.
The security services use excessive violence to disperse protesters, as they fire tear gas and live ammunition against protesters.
