‘Not good enough’- Bruno Fernandes rages at Man Utd after Everton draw

Bruno Fernandes has let his Manchester United teammates know in no uncertain terms that Saturday’s draw with Everton is simply not good enough and an urgent improvement is required.

The Red Devils took the lead at Old Trafford on Saturday through Anthony Martial’s first goal in eight months. However, the opener came after the visitors had grown into the contest.

In the second half, Andros Townsend made sure the Toffees got a deserved point, finishing off a quick break.

Still, Everton could have taken all three points had Yerry Mina not strayed offside before netting home late on. Here, we rated and slated the players on show at Old Trafford.

Speaking after the match, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted that counter-attacking teams are causing his side problems.

And it was very visible that Cristiano Ronaldo was upset by what the loss of two points. With regards his reaction, pundit Rio Ferdinand has given this insight into his actions and what he told his teammates.

Now star midfielder Fernandes has followed suit.

And he admits they need to buck up their ideas if they want to enjoy a successful season.

“Of course, I think it’s really difficult for us,” the Portuguese star told MUTV.

“We played really well first half, create a lot of chances. In the second half we slow it down again. Once again we make that mistake. We have to learn.

“We have to learn and the time is now because we cannot do this anymore. We did it so many times. We cannot slow the game down when we’re winning.

“We have to make it quicker, score once again one, two goals and after, OK, you can slow it down and make them run a little bit more.

“But we have to carry on now. There’s no point… we can be frustrated because of the result, of course, but we have to come back after the national team and then be ready for the next games.”

Fernandes is not shirking responsibility in his comments, holding his hands up for the poor corner that led to the Everton break that saw Townsend cancel out Martial’s opener.

“It’s a really bad corner from me,” he said. “We don’t close well enough outside of the box, we don’t clear the ball, we don’t make a foul – many mistakes starting on my corner.

“We should do it better and we should learn because it’s not the first time that’s happened.

“We have to do better next time because now we have to do something, we have to change something because something is not working to concede so many counter-attacks.

“That is about us players inside of the pitch doing something. It’s not about someone else.

“We have to make a foul, we have to stop the game, I have to take a better corner. Many, many things have to be done better.”

Martial goal makes Bruno Fernandes smile

The draw increases scrutiny on Solskjaer and the side but the day was not entirely negative, with Martial scoring a morale-boosting first United goal in eight months.

“It’s nice having Anto scoring goals again,” Fernandes added.

“We are happy for him because it is not easy for Anto. “Of course he was playing a lot. Two seasons ago he was the best scorer of the team, so it’s difficult for him not to play as many games as he wants.

“But he shows he’s ready when he comes on. He shows once again he can be an important part for us and he will be again in the future.”
