Man United’s Daniel James insists he is still ‘nowhere near’ his potential

Man United’s Daniel James insists he is still ‘nowhere near’ his potential

James’ Man United stint

Daniel James would join Manchester United in the summer of 2019.

During his first season at the club James was a fairly regular feature and made 33 Premier League appearances.

However, barring some solid early-season form, the Welshman did not look overly impressive.

So, it wasn’t too much of a surprise to see James used a fair bit less this season.

The winger would notch just 15 PL outings during 2020/21, with Mason Greenwood quite clearly ahead of James in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s mind.

James still has more to offer

And with Greenwood several years younger than James, you may find it hard to see the former Swansea man having any sort of future at Old Trafford though.

James though, who is now 23 years of age, has insisted that he is nowhere near his potential.

In a recent interview James was asked how he found the campaign with no fans and games every 3/4 days, to which he stated:

“It’s been different. It’s been hectic. We know the fans are behind us from home, but it’s just not the same. It’s kind of become normal now without fans but I think you watch games back where we’ve played games and you can hear the cheering and you kind of forget a little bit.

“You remember it well in your head but you just want to hear that roar when you’re running with the ball. It’ll be something that will be great to have back. I think they’re missing it just as much as we are. I hope soon we’ll get it back when everything’s safe.”

James was also asked how he has developed during 2020/21 and if there is more learning to do, to which he replied:

“I think I’m developing every single game. I’m learning. I reflect on every game and every season I’ve played, whether I’ve played zero minutes, whether I play all the games, I think I’m always learning. For me, I’m nowhere near my potential and I just want to keep improving.”
