Pep Guardiola provides Ilkay Gundogan injury update after Man City’s loss to Brighton

Man City downed by Brighton

Manchester City played out their penultimate game of the Premier League season on Tuesday evening.

The Citizens faced off with Brighton at the Amex, with fans of course back in the stadium for the first time this campaign.

And those in attendance on Tuesday were treated to a pretty entertaining 90 minutes.

Ilkay Gundogan fired the visitors into the lead after just two minutes. Joao Cancelo was then shown a straight red just eight minutes later.

But despite going down to ten men, it would be City who scored the next goal of the day, with Phil Foden surging forward 48 minutes in to bag a spectacular solo goal:

Brighton, though, did not give up and would pull one back just a few moments later via Leandro Trossard:

Adam Webster then drew the hosts level with just under 20 minutes of normal time remaining, before the Seagulls added a 3rd just four minutes later to secure a huge win for Brighton.

The result on the day, however, meant little for either side.

Man City, instead, will no doubt have been concerned when, after going down following a heavy tackle in the first half, Gundogan was brought off shortly after the break as a precaution:

With the Champions League final coming up later this month, the City faithful are no doubt sweating over the fitness of one of their standout performers this campaign.

When speaking about the German post-match, though, Pep Guardiola gave a fairly positive update, confirming that the City doctor was optimistic:

“We will see tomorrow, the doctor is optimistic, he had a kick and he was running in the second half with a disturbance so we made the change not to take a risk.”
