An Odegaard alternative:

There’s never a quiet day on Arsenal Twitter.

Following their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening, it was reported that the club are stepping up their interest in Norwich City star Emi Buendia. With doubts over the long-term future of Martin Odegaard, currently on loan from Real Madrid, the Argentine has long been touted as an alternative to the 22-year-old.

Arsenal Twitter into overdrive:

The results of the reliable Charles Watts’ tweet were immediate, with Arsenal supporters across social media having reacted to the news:

Emi Buendia at the Emirates next season? YES PLEASE!

Indeed, Arsenal-based account Chris Davison claimed that the Argentine could be available for as little as 35 million pounds this summer, a statement for which he received quite a bit of subsequent backlash:

One of those who particularly enjoyed Davison’s tweet was ex-Norwich and Manchester City player Darren Huckerby. Two-time player of the year for the Canaries, the Englishman pointed out that Arsenal paid 72 million pounds for Nicolas Pepe, and joked that the club would be lucky to sign him, now 45, for the fee touted for Buendia:

Davison fired back, however, assuring that the sum touted was passed down to him by “a well-respected Norwich correspondent”, and that the information was not something he had plucked from thin air.

Emi Buendia is of course fresh off a brilliant season in the Championship, during which he fired in 15 goals and provided a further 17 assists in his 39 appearances for the East Anglian club, to help them return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

He would certainly be a valuable addition to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad, and could prove to be a bargain if the quoted fee is to be believed.
