The attack which took place on Sunday claimed lives of more
than ten people and injured 39 others, according to DRC police.
The name of the suspect was not immediately disclosed by
Congolese authorities, but Kenya’s anti-terrorism police unit known as ATPU
identified the suspect as old Abdirizak Muktar Garad from Wajir County.
Garad who is 29 years old was said to be a member of the
proscribed Ugandan terrorist group, Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).
Despite Congolese military accusing the ADF of carrying out
the attack on the church, no group has yet claimed the responsibility for the
attack.
ADF which is the Ugandan terrorist group based in eastern DR
Congo attacked villages in DRC in the past.
The group also
launched attacks in urban areas in Uganda. It is not the first time, a Kenyan national linked to terror incidents
in DRC.
Early, January last year, another Kenyan, identified as alim
Rashid Mohamed aka Chotara was nabbed in DRC. He was accused of masterminding
terror attacks in DRC. The arrest of Chotara came after months of a manhunt by
Congolese authorities.
