On this workshop, individuals will use basketry methods to weave with invasive plant species and different pure supplies. The workshop will situate weaving in a communal setting as an embodied observe that considers our connections and obligations to land and setting. Through the workshop we’ll discover how these practices will be a part of reconsidering and decoding ancestral abilities within the present second. Estraven will share how they join with their very own cultural practices, and critically have interaction with having a land based mostly observe as an uninvited visitor on unceded Indigenous territory.
Estraven Lupino-Smith is a queer and non-binary trans artist, researcher, and educator born in Dish with One Spoon territory to an Italian and Scottish household. Their observe is interdisciplinary, knowledgeable by their inventive and demanding engagements with human interactions in our environments: pure, cultural, and constructed. By means of the embodied observe of weaving, Estraven considers the entanglements of supplies and place, the relationships between people, landscapes, settlement, and the shifting of panorama by the seasons.
