A recent report from Germany has credited two Premier League sides with an interest in Jonas Hofmann.

Who is Jonas Hofmann?

Hofmann began his senior career with Borussia Dortmund, after spending much of his youth with Hoffenheim.

And the 28-year-old subsequently went on to notch 59 appearances across all competitions for BVB.

Hofmann never really cemented himself as a regular at Signal Iduna Park, though, and was loaned out to Mainz in 2014/15 as a result.

This was followed by a permanent departure from Dortmund in 2016, when Hofmann linked up with Borussia Monchengladbach.

And the two-time capped German international has since gone on to feature 153 times across all competitions for Gladbach, scoring 22 and assisting 33 in the process.

It is the current campaign, though, which has proven Hofmann’s most impressive.

In 33 Bundesliga outings, he has found the net eight times, as well as providing 13 assists.

Chelsea & Tottenham linked with Hofmann

And such fine form has now seemingly piqued the interest of some top Premier League sides.

Speculation stemming from Germany credited Chelsea with an interest in the forward back in February.

Now, those links have once again remerged in recent days.

According to Sport1 reporter Patrick Berger, Chelsea and Tottenham have a strong interest in Gladbach’s Hofmann, who it is believed any club would have to pay around €15m to land:

Who needs Hofmann?

Whilst there may be some sense in Spurs targeting Hofmann now Gareth Bale’s loan has finished, why are Chelsea showing an interest in him?

Yes he is quite versatile, which is always a useful trait. But Chelsea already have a plethora of options that can be deployed on both the left and the right, including Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
