2022 NBA Championship Outright Futures Betting Picks

The 2021-22 NBA season begins on Oct. 19, 2021; the 2022 NBA championship outright futures betting picks are now available at Basketball Insiders. According to oddsmakers at Bovada, the Brooklyn Nets are the favorites (+250) to win the 2022 NBA championship, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers (+350), Milwaukee Bucks (+850) and Golden State Warriors (+1000).

While the Bucks had a quieter offseason this time around, the Lakers and Nets have made several interesting moves. If bettors are unsure which team they want to put their money on, they shouldn’t panic—at least not anytime soon. The best options will be discussed in this article. Down below are the updated 2022 NBA championship odds from Bovada.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are a solid pick for the upcoming season. Hands down, they’ve had the most interesting offseason in the league. However, interesting does not automatically translate to superior. This is up to individual bettors to decide for themselves. On Jul. 29, the Lakers agreed to trade Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell to the Washington Wizards for Russell Westbrook. Los Angeles now has their elite three: LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Westbrook.

On Aug. 3, the organization signed Carmelo Anthony to a one-year deal. Three days later, Los Angeles signed Dwight Howard, Wayne Ellington, Malik Monk and Trevor Ariza. Plus, they re-signed Talen Horton-Tucker and signed Kendrick Nunn. To add to the list, Rajon Rondo and DeAndre Jordan signed deals as well. The team finished 42-30 (.583) last season. They are projected to win at least 46 games. Therefore, they are the most appealing contender in the Western Conference.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets made various moves during their offseason, too. On Aug. 3, the organization signed Patty Mills to a two-year, $12 million deal. Brooklyn’s front office also signed Cam Thomas and James Johnson. Then, they acquired Jevon Carter from the Phoenix Suns. Moreover, on Apr. 15, 2021, LaMarcus Aldridge retired abruptly after experiencing irregular heartbeats. Though, on Sept. 3, he announced that he would unretire after being medically cleared to play.

Assuming Aldridge can stay healthy, the 36-year-old center can still play at a high level. Furthermore, after losing 115-111 in Game 7 of overtime against the Milwaukee Bucks in the Conference Semifinals series, the Nets are determined to make it back. Their Big Three—Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, James Harden—remains intact. They are expected to win at least 47 games in the upcoming season.

Milwaukee Bucks

After witnessing the Bucks fall apart several times in the postseason, they finally won their second NBA championship last season, defeating the Suns in six games. The Bucks were not expected to win it all in the 2021 NBA Finals. They finished 46-26 (.639). Bucks’ fans would say winning the title was justice for the team collapsing in 2019 and 2020. While Giannis Antetokounmpo won MVP twice in past seasons, the team just didn’t have enough in the tank by the time they reached the Eastern Conference Finals. Of course, last season was different.

In the offseason, on Aug. 6, they re-signed Bobby Portis. Next, guards George Hill and Rodney Hood were signed. Forward Semi Ojeleye was later signed, in addition to these players. One day later, Grayson Allen was traded by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Bucks for Sam Merrill and cash. Despite being the reigning champs, should head coach Mike Budenholzer worry about his current roster? The Greek Freak can carry this team, but oddsmakers are not projecting Milwaukee to repeat as champions next season.

Dark-horse contenders

The Miami Heat are one notable dark-horse contender. It was not long ago they played the Lakers in the 2020 NBA Finals. They possess +2500 odds of winning the title. The Heat re-signed Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, Dewayne Dedmon and Duncan Robinson. On the same day, the Toronto Raptors traded Kyle Lowry to Miami for Precious Achiuwa and Goran Dragic. Also, they re-signed Jimmy Butler a day later. They are a big sleeper in the Eastern Conference, needless to say.

Moreover, the Golden State Warriors rank fourth in title odds (+1000). Bettors are not respecting them, though. On Aug. 3, they signed Jonathan Kuminga to a rookie-scale contract. He was selected seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Plus, Moses Moody, Nemanja Bjelica and Otto Porter Jr. were signed. Stephen Curry signed a four-year, $215 million extension in early August, too. If Klay Thompson can stay healthy when he returns in December, their title odds will increase.
